It all started, when the request of the head of ADAE, Christos Rammos, to attend the committee in order to inform its members in a closed meeting began to be discussed.
The tone was raised at the meeting of the Committee on Institutions and Transparency in the Parliament, where the case of collusion in the call center of the KKE since 2016 is being discussed.
SYRIZA MPs left the committee.
It all started, when the request of the head of ADAE, Christos Rammos, to attend the committee in order to inform its members in a closed meeting began to be discussed.
The parliamentarians of the ND
“I will wait to see specifically the request of Ramos and from then on there will be the procedures foreseen. We see it when the data is more specific” answered Thanasis Bouras with Dimitris Markopoulos of ND saying that “it is unprecedented for the head of an independent authority to invite himself. What is this; He is doing politics outside his constitutional limits.”
“The Constitution defines independent authorities as institutional counterweights, they do not replace justice with legislative or executive power. You must answer Mr. President to Rammos. It does not itself indicate when it will be called nor does it indicate whether the meeting should be open or closed. If they want the opposition MPs to take responsibility, they should call him,” said Euripides Stylianidis.
Why did SYRIZA leave?
Giorgos Katrougalos denounced the procedure and informed that the members of the official opposition are leaving the meeting denouncing the procedure.
“We cannot cooperate in an attempt to cover up” he characteristically said, provoking the angry reaction of Manolis Syntyhakis from the KKE who spoke of an attempt to divert the discussion from the agenda.
Katrougalos statement on the withdrawal of SYRIZA
“Today is a sad day for the Parliament and Parliamentarianism.
The majority of the ND in the Committee on Institutions and Transparency essentially decided to abolish itself, i.e. not to exercise the responsibilities provided for by the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, the President of ADAE, Mr. Rammos, asked to come and inform the Committee about matters of his competence .
Deputies of the majority attacked him and the Authority with insulting and ignorant expressions, self-removing the powers of the Commission.
In this effort, I would say a conspiracy of obfuscation that the Government wants to impose on this great wiretapping scandal.
And unfortunately, the unacceptable attitude of the ND today is not an isolated event.
It is another link in a series of deviations from the Constitution, with the last being the unconstitutional opinion of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, which was unanimously condemned by all constitutionalists.
ND will not be able to keep the Prime Minister away from his responsibilities, who is responsible both for the wiretapping scandal itself and for the attempt to cover it up.
The President of ADAE will come to testify to the Committee on Institutions and Transparency with the possibilities given to the opposition by the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure.
But the stigma of today’s anti-parliamentary tactics will forever weigh on the ND.”
