Notis Mitarakis was on Tuesday afternoon on the program “Mismatched” on SKAI and referred to Kathimerini’s revealing report about “little Maria” and at the same time called on SYRIZA to put an end to the montage

Regarding the case of the immigrants in Evros, the alleged death of “little Maria” and also about the role of Baida, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarakis, who was on the show “Mismatches” on SKAI, was mentioned at noon on Tuesday. At the same time, he launched an attack on SYRIZA-PS for what he attributes to him, calling on him to put an end to the montage.

Referring to the request to exhume the alleged child, he said that Turkey reacted and the Greek side asked for the family’s permission to help mediate, however “the family refused us through the NGO lawyers who represented them to take action towards Turkey” . He also pointed out that a few weeks after the government revealed that little Maria did not exist, they filed a request with Prosecutor Orestiados. However, when they themselves were summoned to testify where exactly on the islet the alleged burial of the little girl took place, the family replied that they did not bury their child, they gave it to some others of the 38 to go somewhere further away to bury it. “The family that buried their child does not know where they buried him and did not bury him themselves. This story has too many holes from the first moment,” said Mr. Mitarakis, referring to a “made up story”.

At the same time, he attacked SYRIZA, for its criticism of him, saying calling on him to put an end to the montage as he was the one who on August 16 publicly conveyed what some of the migrants said as soon as they found themselves on Greek soil about a dead child and he it was he who informed the Parliament after the investigation that was carried out pointing out that there is neither a missing nor a dead child.

“We did a thorough investigation for two weeks, we gathered information from the European Court of Human Rights that we had appealed to, we compared the lists we found of those who came, we saw photographic material and 14 days later, on August 30, I officially said in Parliament that I did not there was a dead child. I said that the testimonies were there, but as I said in Parliament on 8/30, when we collected all the statements of the 38, very few of the 38 mentioned the incident in brief. The majority of the 38 did not even mention that this child existed,” said Mr. Mitarakis.

Mr. Mitarakis also referred to the strange action of two NGOs which were also the ones that started the case, stressing that there are executives in them who had an institutional role during the SYRIZA government.

Finally, referring to the role of Bayda, the informal “representative” of “38” in the international media, which is unknown how the group joined and then left Greece, without even having documents from the competent authorities of the country, Mr. Mitarakis noted that “it was not in the NGO’s submission to the European Court in Strasbourg. He showed up at the last minute. Appeared and integrated with this group not from the authorities. It is not on the list submitted by the two NGOs to the European Court of Human Rights. This is something that the judiciary is investigating. However, we know that he is outside of Greece,” the minister pointed out.
