The vice-president of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and former president of the Thessaloniki Port Authority, Stelios Angeloudis, officially announced his candidacy for the municipality of Thessaloniki in the self-governing elections of October.

Through a written announcement, Mr. Angeloudis invites all the citizens to a big meeting – getting to know each other in Olympia on Saturday, February 12, at 12 noon. “We want to make a strong presence in the upcoming municipal elections. We want to prove that we can house our city, get modern infrastructure and a better everyday life, a better quality of life”, he says, among other things.

The candidate for mayor, in the same announcement, emphasizes that as the years go by, the problems remain and citizens experience them every day: “Abandonment of public spaces. Deficiencies and distortions. Lack of plans and sloppiness. Inability to claim the resources and aid that the central state must contribute for Thessaloniki. In our societies and neighborhoods resignation seems to have prevailed, “nothing changes” some say. And yet there is also the other side.”

“So we are starting a new effort. Without barren dividing lines, without putting ego before we. We will work together, with knowledge as a criterion and determination as a driving force”, adds Mr. Angeloudis.
