Following the quick reflexes shown by Greece by sending aid to deal with the devastating consequences of the strong earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria, Dora Bakoyannis – this time in her capacity as Head of the Greek Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) – calls on the Council of Europe to rise to the occasion and offer immediate assistance to Turkey and Syria. In fact, he calls on the Council to offer institutional, humanitarian or any other kind of assistance.
“As the head of the Greek Delegation … I call on you and the leadership of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to mobilize the Assembly, the Council of Europe and all its members to provide institutional, humanitarian and any other kind of assistance to Turkey , a sister member state of the Council of Europe, but also to the people of Syria who are in need,” he points out in the letter he sent to PACE President Tiny Kox.

The former minister and parliamentarian of the ND had stood by the people of Turkey and Syria from the first moment that the tragedy that struck the neighboring countries became known. In her post she wrote: “It is these moments, the difficult ones, that prove that in the face of tragedy and loss we are all equal. I express my sincere condolences and my solidarity to the families of the victims.”
