In a new field of government-SYRIZA confrontation, the domino of resignations of professors of the Dramatic School of the National Theater and KTHBE, in order to stand by their students and the artists who are protesting against PD 85/2022 which concerns, among other things, the grading of the degrees of the artists and their professional rights for public employment.
At Megaros Maximos, they believe that the mobilizations of the artists are due to confusion as, as the government representative stated, “the things concerning the artists in this Presidential Decree have already been withdrawn, they have already been abolished.
So the basic request of withdrawing the part of the Presidential Decree that concerned the artists has already, with a law passed by the Government, been carried out”.
“We are not against the world of culture, nor do we in any way infringe on any of their rights that have been valid for 20 years” is the message sent by the government, while at the same time announcing that the government remains open to dialogue without hypocrisy and states that it is ready to give clear solutions, as a government agent commented, referring to a modern educational system in the performing arts.
He even invites the artists to come to this dialogue, unaffected by any doubts that are spreading, showing the side of SYRIZA. After all, Herodou Attikou sees political exploitation by Koumoundourou of the “crisis” that arose with the artists, with Yiannis Oikonomou naming Alexis Tsipras himself when awarding the “Oscar of political hypocrisy” as, as the government representative argued, “he should know that art is an end in itself and it is a great condescension to reduce it to a medium of lowly oppositional impressions”.
Regarding the concerns of the artists that led them to ongoing protest events, government officials argue that the P.D. 85/2022 does not change in any way the recruitment procedures in the State with the pure capacity of the artist (e.g. in state orchestras, state stages, the National Theatre, DIPETHE), but only the qualifications of the branches for recruitment in administrative positions, while it does not modify the way they are paid either. They underline, however, that in response to the industry’s concerns, the government passed legislation that expressly exempts the employment of artists in the State from the Presidential Decree, thus clarifying the way artists are paid and their explicit exemption from ASEP , while at the same time it established the mandatory use of the special against the uniform salary in the OTAs as well.
The issue of artistic education, however, is a matter of concern to the government, which is oriented towards the creation of Higher Public Schools of Performing Arts. A project for which competent interministerial working groups have been set up and are expected to start meetings in the next few days with the participation of all the state performing arts schools to make the relevant recommendations.
