The Head of Finance of SYRIZA-PS, on the occasion of the decision of the Supreme Court
Publications according to which “the Supreme Court, by a majority decision, ruled in favor of the possibility of debt management companies to conduct auctions” is cited by the head of the Finance Department of SYRIZA-PS, Efi Ahtsioglou, pointing out that “the first home auctions were anyway fully liberated by the political choice and responsibility of the Mitsotakis government”.

“With this court decision – the rationale of which is not yet known – the borrowers are deprived of a procedural possibility to block the execution of an auction under conditions”, he underlines, noting that “from the beginning we emphasized to the government that the issue does not concern a procedural dispute , but that he should have legislated for the protection of the first residence”.
“Nevertheless, the government persisted in its bankruptcy code, with which it had abolished all protection of the first residence, even of our most vulnerable fellow citizens, while it left completely unchecked the funds to conduct auctions, without even the obligation of prior regulation proposal to the debtor”, he emphasizes.
“The consequences of these political choices are being experienced today by Greek society, which is being swept by an extensive wave of auctions. And as if that wasn’t enough, even the previously informed borrowers are now at risk of foreclosures as interest rates skyrocket and they are unable to service their loans. At the same time, the government of the ND operates as a careless observer and exhausts itself in communication-type leaks”, notes E. Ahtsioglou and concludes:
“The next progressive government of the country is committed to legislating both for the protection of the first home and for a framework of real ability to regulate citizens’ debts both to the State and to the banks.”
