He made special reference to the city of Jamaica, Montego Bay, where the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea was signed, but also to its twinning with Sitia.
With the visit to Jamaica, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias completed his five-day tour of six countries in South and Central America, which began on Monday in Brazil, continued in Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Panama.
In his statement after the end of the meetings in Jamaica, Nikos Dendias highlighted the importance of the visit, as it was the first Greek foreign minister and underlined that it is part of the deepening of bilateral relations. He noted that the two countries have a lot in common, both in terms of the tourism industry, but also in their general understanding of International Law and the International Law of the Sea.
He made special reference to the city of Jamaica, Montego Bay, where the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea was signed, but also to its twinning with Sitia.
“It is extremely important that Montego Bay, the city where UNCLOS, the United Nations International Convention on the Law of the Sea was signed, is twinned with Sitia. A Greek city at the edge of Crete, at a very strategic point where the precise application of the Law of the Sea acquires a national importance” he said characteristically and congratulated the mayor, the Municipal Council and the residents of Sitia “for this excellent choice”.
