Nikos Androulakis: “Initiatives are needed, which shield the middle class and our most vulnerable fellow citizens”

by

The President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, had a meeting with borrowers’ and consumers’ associations, in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision that opens the way for mass auctions, as well as the legislative initiative undertaken by the party’s Parliamentary Group for the protection of principal residence of weak borrowers.

“The figures show that if nothing is done, in 2023 50,000 households will be threatened with an auction of their first home” noted Mr. Androulakis, describing the gap between interest rates on deposits and mortgages and also the fact that funds buy loans from banks at 10- 20% of their value but extortionately demand 80-90% of the loan from the citizens.

He once again called on the Government and the opposition parties to vote in favor of the amendment of K.O. of PASOK-Movement for Change, which provides for:
-Protection of the main residence in the philosophy of the PASOK law of 2010 with updated criteria
-Protection of agricultural land
-Overall private debt management framework, where, among other things, provision is made for 120 installments for debts to the tax office and EFKA, with a “haircut” of 30% of the debt for consistent
– and solution for Swiss franc borrowers.

“These initiatives shield the middle class and our most vulnerable fellow citizens. Because of the economic and energy crisis, you know the gnawing of the citizens’ income. The Government has a huge responsibility for the current situation” Mr. Androulakis pointed out, recalling that the protection of the first residence, which PASOK had achieved in 2010, was reduced during the SYRIZA government and was definitively abolished during the New Democracy government.
The meeting was attended by Evangelos Kritikos, President of the Federation of Borrowers, Nikolaos Tsemberlides, President of K.P.KA., Panagiota Kalapotharakou, President of EKPOIZO, Apostolos Rautopoulos, President of the Consumer Workers’ Union of Greece, Katerina Rozaki representing the Swiss Franc Borrowers’ Initiative and on behalf of PASOK-Movement for Change, Michalis Katrinis, Head of the K.O., Dimitris Spyrakos Secretary of the Private Debt Sector, Dimitris Anastasopoulos Assistant Secretary of the Private Debt Sector and the Director of the K.O. Thanasis Glavinas.
