SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance is harshly critical of the government, blaming it for failing to manage the pandemic and for failing to do even the obvious things to protect public health. The official opposition notes that the government “must leave and find a way out with the prospect of change.”
In the decision of the Political Council of SYRIZA-PS that met today, it is also noted that “the Mitsotakis government has finally chosen the path of arrogance, authoritarianism, social and political division, withdrawal from reality” and that the prime minister “has identified with the absolute failure to stop the pandemic, the abandonment of the NSS, the collapse of society’s expectations “. “The only solution, then, that will provide a way out of the impasse is political change. It is a matter of life “, it is underlined in the decision of the PS.
At the same time, the official opposition claims that the government “has completely lost the most critical weapon for the management of the health crisis, which is the credibility and trust of the society” and for this reason, as it states, it appeals to the citizens “not to to underestimate the risk, not to be complacent, to observe the measures to avoid synchronization and protection of Public Health, to be vaccinated universally without hesitation and to seek medical help in time when they show suspicious symptoms “.
At the same time, the decision of the SC emphasizes the need for an emergency plan to deal with the health crisis, which includes seven axes, including the strengthening of the NSS, the acceleration of universal vaccination and international initiatives to release the patent for vaccines and vaccines of Covid, free access of all citizens to prescription and reimbursed by EOPYY molecular and rapid tests, financial support to victims in proportion to the restrictive measures in industries, companies and categories of employees, especially in catering and culture.
The entire decision of the Political Council of SYRIZA-PS:
“Unfortunately, the evolution of the pandemic has spiraled out of control. New Year’s Eve and almost every family goes through the agony of illness or contact with a confirmed case. And all this while the NSS is on the verge of collapse.
But this dramatic development was not inevitable. Mr. Mitsotakis and his staff bear huge – criminal responsibilities because they knew about the Omicron mutation. They had in their hands the scientists’ estimates for the geometric increase of the cases during the holidays if they did not take measures and yet they did absolutely nothing. They played public health crown letters so as not to be called upon to take financial support measures. This is criminal irresponsibility. All this at a time when, since mid-November, our country is twice above average. of the EU in losses in proportion to the inhabitants.
It is clear that Mr Mitsotakis and his government can no longer take for granted the protection of public health. Even at this tragic moment, they deny free access to molecular tests through prescription. It’s part of the problem, not the solution.
The government has failed. It must go away and be given a way out with the prospect of change. It is a government that refuses to listen to the proposals of the scientific community, the proposals of the people of the front line.
-He refused to listen to any proposal we have submitted all this time.
-Any consultation was refused when we proposed a meeting of the political leaders under the PD.
-He rejected our proposal for a Minister of Health of common acceptance, who will strengthen the NSS and will take, where necessary, difficult decisions.
-Any proposal we have made to strengthen the NSS was rejected, with the result that today we have fewer permanent employees compared to 2019 and we have the phenomenon of mass resignations of new doctors from burn out.
-Rejected the participation of private clinics in dealing with the pandemic and described the aid in ICU as “wasted money”.
-Even in the request for telework, which we have been shouting since the beginning of November and would be the immediate solution for decompression in the means of transport, we had to reach negative case records in order for it to be adopted in a vague way.
-In the pandemic, not only did he not dilute the student departments, but he proceeded with mergers and the adoption of a dangerous protocol for the suspension after illness of 50% + 1 in each department.
Here and now there needs to be an emergency plan to deal with the health crisis
-Emergency plan to strengthen the resilience of the NSS, with the courageous support of public health structures and their human resources, with permanent recruitment and upgrading of working conditions and remuneration of staff and, above all, with the ordering of private clinics and full utilization of military hospitals in the direction of the uniform speed of the system and the mobilization of all available health forces of the country.
Acceleration of the universal vaccination and especially of the 3rd dose, which has been proven to contribute to the protection against the “O” mutation. International initiatives to release patents on vaccines and drugs against covid-19, to remove global disparities in healthcare.
– Stopping the spread of the virus by systematically monitoring the observance of restrictive measures with continuous evaluation of their effectiveness.
– Upgrading of epidemiological surveillance, early diagnosis and systematic tracking of cases, with free access for all citizens to molecular and rapid tests prescribed and reimbursed by EOPYY.
-Modification of the health protocols for the schools and taking all the necessary measures so that they can open and operate safely in the new year.
– Substantial restart of the vaccination program, with health education actions in the community and promotion of the culture of vaccination as an act not only of individual protection, but also of social solidarity towards our vulnerable fellow human beings. Utilization of good practices of other countries (eg Portugal) with targeted “door-to-door” actions of the services of the NSS and the Local Government.
-Financial support to victims in line with restrictive measures in sectors, companies and categories of workers, especially in catering and culture
At the same time
The Mitsotakis government stubbornly refuses to follow this self-evident path. It ignores the proposals of the opposition parties, it even ignores the appeals of the scientists. Her only concern is the political expediency, the beautification of reality, the constant attacks on SYRIZA Progressive Alliance.
In this context, it has completely lost the most critical weapon for managing the health crisis, which is the credibility and trust of society.
For this very reason, we call on society and citizens not to underestimate the risk, not to be complacent, to adhere to the measures of avoidance of synchronization and protection of Public Health, to be vaccinated universally without hesitation and to seek timely medical help when they have suspicious symptoms. .
These are not measures that concern the government, these are measures that concern the lives of all of us.
The Mitsotakis government has finally chosen the path of arrogance, authoritarianism, social and political division, withdrawal from reality.
Greek society will not follow them.
Mr. Mitsotakis would like to identify himself with the state. However, it has been identified with the absolute failure to stop the pandemic, the abandonment of the NSS, the collapse of society’s expectations.
The only solution, then, that will provide a way out of the impasse is political change. “It’s a matter of life.”
