“In the social body of Hellenism there are distinct scars of national division and it is a key priority of the Mitsotakis government that, during the pre-election period, the national consensus on the basic lines of our foreign policy should not be questioned and because we believe, I think all of us, that unity it is not a luxury acquisition, but a necessary condition for our national survival”, stressed the Foreign Minister Nikos Dendiasspeaking at an event on “Greece as a factor of power and stability in the South-East Mediterranean”.

Mr. Dendias presented the main axes of the foreign policy and expressed the belief that “Greece will continue to grow and grow taller in the years to come”. He referred to his own work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reported the following: He has made 244 visits and more than 300 meetings in 81 countries. He has met with 112 of his counterparts and with 19 of them it was the first time for a Greek foreign minister. He has signed 321 international agreements and, as he said, they are the most in the country’s history. He has traveled 1,108,000 kilometers in the air and jokingly commented that it is like traveling to the moon three times.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs referred to the devastating earthquakes in Turkey, his visit to the neighboring country and the climate created with the direct assistance of Greece and noted: “The warmth of the reception extended to me not only by the Turkish officials, the ministers, the my long-time acquaintance and friend Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, but, above all, the recently affected and grieving people, deeply convinced me of the possibility of the two societies and the two peoples to walk together in a peaceful, stable, certain future. We can hope that through cordiality a safer future will emerge. However, for Greece there are basic guiding values: Territorial integrity, International Law, Law of the Sea, dialogue”.

The event, with Mr. Dendias as the speaker, took place at the Guard Officers’ Club of Thessaloniki and was organized by the “Creation Group for Thessaloniki” Political Issues Group.

In addition to the minister, the floor was taken by the member of the National Democratic Party and chairman of the National Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament, Kostas Giulekas, who emphasized that “Mr. Dendias, by order of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is implementing a foreign policy which we had many years to meet in our homeland”.

As for the climate that developed between Greece and Turkey after the earthquakes in the neighboring country, the immediate Greek aid and the trip of Mr. Dendias to the affected areas together with his Turkish counterpart, he wished “to be the beginning of a new period in Greek-Turkish relations”.

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Macedonia and Thrace, Stavros Kalafatis, the ND MPs, Anna Efthymiou, Theodoros Karaoglou, Savvas Anastasiadis, Dimitris Vartzopoulos, the MP and former SYRIZA Deputy Foreign Minister Yannis Amanatidis (as a member of the committee of National Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Parliament), the regional governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the mayor of Thessaloniki Kostas Zervas, the mayor of Pylaia Hortiatis Ignatios Katezidis, the president of PED K. Macedonia, mayors of regional municipalities, the rector of APTH Nikos Papaioannou, the president of the Israeli Community David Saltiel, the head of the prime minister’s office in Thessaloniki Maria Antoniou, consuls etc.

Earlier, Mr. Dendias spoke at the event of the governing committee of the ND in Kilkis for the cutting of the pie and, among other things, said: “Here, to you, to the New Democrats, I feel like at home. Why this party it is my home. I grew up in this party. Wherever I am, I always say that we are a people’s party, we are a genuine people’s party, a party that cares for the working man, for the householder, for the small and medium businessman for all those who keep the society.

I also say that we do not allow anyone to think that he has the monopoly of the heart. All Greeks have a heart and ours, the blue heart, is big and beats very, very hard”.

Regarding the proposal that the government will present in the upcoming elections, he said that it will be clear: “We will tell society that storms await us, because the Greek people know this, but we are not afraid of storms, we can overcome them with the proposal we will submit”, pointed out Mr. Dendias.
