The meeting of the Executive Office of SYRIZA for the case of Pavlos Polakis in the wake of the reactions caused by the MP’s post on social media last Saturday.

The Executive Office of SYRIZA unanimously recommends to the Political Secretariat that Mr. Polakis remain out of SYRIZA’s ballots. However, there was no question of deleting him from the party.

It was decided to refer the issue on Thursday to the Political Secretariat, of which Mr. Polakis himself is a member.

The competent body of SYRIZA-PS met with an expanded composition, led by Alexis Tsipras.

The announcement of SYRIZA

“Tsipras decision imposed – Unanimous recommendation to the General Assembly for his non-participation in the ballots – It will be judged by the Ethics Committee as befits a democratic party”

Unanimous Decision of the Executive Office and the Political Planning Committee of the SYRIZA PS

The decision of the President of SYRIZA PS to refer comrade Pavlos Polakis, after the crisis caused by his recent posts on social media, to the Ethics Committee was right and imperative.

It will be judged by it, with calmness, composure and justice, as befits a democratic party, governed by rules and principles.

The priority of all party officials before the critical battle is to protect the party from the toxicity and distortion of the opponent.

The priority of all party officials is to fight and win the next election.

Victory, however, requires political trust and unity from all of us fighting on the front lines.

It requires clear wording and clear positions.
The collective positions.

It requires putting we over ego.
And it requires us not to give the adversary rights at critical times.

There are no ultimatums in our collective operation.
It is not understood to question our collective will to clash with the parastatal mechanisms and the policy of looting society implemented by the Mitsotakis regime.

In this context, the Executive Office unanimously recommends to the Political Secretariat of the party, which will meet the day after tomorrow Thursday, the non-participation of Comrade Pavlos Polakis on the party’s ballot papers in view of the next crucial election contest.

Finally, we underline that we will collectively stand against any attempt at prosecutorial intervention and criminalization of political opinions, no matter how much one disagrees with them.”

The responsibility he has to protect, as his party said, the president of SYRIZA put forward earlier Alexis Tsipras asked about Pavlos Polakis ahead of the debate in the party bodies of the major opposition. In fact, as he said, the issue is damaging, as for 48 hours we are dealing with Pavlos Polakis and not with the major issues of the country. “But it will pass,” he said.
