New meeting with railway workers had today the Minister of State and Transport, Giorgos Gerapetritis in order to establish the final framework for its safe operation, until the new ETCS remote control and signaling system is operational at the end of next September.

At the meeting, the second in a row, the package of proposals for the immediate safe restart of the routes and the recovery of the trust of both the employees and the passenger public was put forward by the workers. However, according to information from the railways, the “green light” is expected to be given first to the resumption of routes of the Athens suburban train, in which there is complete remote control, as in the re-operation of freight trains and subsequently passenger trains.

After the meeting with Giorgos Gerapetritis, Federation of Railways issued a relevant announcement in which it states that they informed the minister about the chronic pathologies of the Greek Railways.

“During this, the Minister was informed by us extensively about the chronic pathologies of the Greek Railways, while it was emphasized that none of these problems have been resolved despite our repeated and targeted efforts to highlight them in all possible ways” is stated in the announcement and they go on to say that “Mr. Minister informed us that the intention of the Government is the safe restart of the Railway as well as that he will soon make official announcements within the above framework. On our part, our non-negotiable position for an open, safe and quality Railway was emphasized again”.
