Stores of the “Sklavenitis” and “Market In” supermarket chains were visited today by the Minister of Development and Investments, Adonis Georgiadis, as last week they recorded a reduction in the prices of “Household Basket” products.

After his visit to the two chains, Mr. Georgiadis said: “We are very pleased. Very good prices in Sclavenitis this week. We came because you had a big reduction from last week and we want to reward those who do good prices to consumers.

The “Household Basket” is in its 21st week of implementation and a new round of price reductions has begun. The difference in the total value of the basket from last week is -2.1%. It’s a shockingly long distance in 7 days -2.1%.

If we continue at this rate until May, we shall have considerable differences on the shelves, and the world will now be able to see that little by little this great strain created by the war is beginning to be relieved.

However, in the household basket we found milk the same price for 21 weeks, sugar the same price for 21 weeks, chicken the same price for 21 weeks. We found olive oil at a lower price – 5.50 a liter is a shockingly low price for olive oil this year. We found salted cod 8.90 cod variety and of course many other products, such as spaghetti, fruit and others at reasonable prices.

The inflation battle continues. The household basket is working. Get back with your shopping, let’s go well.”

Mr. Georgiadis also visited the public market in Vrilissia and said: “We also came to the public market today to see the prices here in Vrilissia. Apart from the general, thus, gloom that prevails about the prices, we found really very good prices today in the street.

We found onions for the first time under the euro. We found eggplant under 2 euros. We found apples for 1 euro. We found oranges at 0.50 cents, we found strawberries at 3.90 per kilo, 2.5 from the kesedaki. The first ones we found were 2.5 per kilo.

We found very good prices. I’m happy about that. I always tell people: Prefer street markets. Street markets keep prices low and quality high.”

For his part, the president of the Panattic Federation of Market Sellers, Dimitris Mouliatos, emphasized: “We warmly thank the minister, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, who is with us to do his own autopsy on the prices, but also to monitor his reaction world, which is positive for public markets.

I want to state that the whole world of the public markets is very pleased and grateful to the minister who has ensured that the public markets work very well and with his own care that problems are solved every day. We are here for consumers.”
