The path of the nation towards the progress of the homeland was not always linear, says the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the Sunday account of the work of the government, on Facebook.

Mr. Mitsotakis emphasizes that despite the improvement in many areas, there have been setbacks that delayed our national development and that the citizens “they are waiting for proposals, solutions, projects, not toxicity and pointless fights.”

The Prime Minister’s Facebook post:

“Good morning to all. Let me start today’s review with wishes to all Greek men and women in every corner of the world for yesterday’s National Anniversary of March 25th. The beginning of the struggle for freedom of our nation, but also the beginning of a two hundred and two year march for the progress of our country.

Of course, this course was not always linear. Unfortunately, it also had many setbacks that delayed our national development. We have seen painfully – recently and tragically – that we have not succeeded in building a state that radiates seriousness, responsibility and professionalism at all levels. We have improved in key areas, but we still have a lot of work to do. This is what citizens expect from political forces.

They expect proposals, solutions, projects, not toxicity and pointless fights.

That’s exactly what I’m trying to emphasize with the weekly report: to talk to you about projects, about the steps that are taken each week, small and big.

So I will start with our commitment to gradually start again railway routes with increased security measures. Every fortnight additional lines will be added so that there is full growth before Easter.

At the same time, a new OSE Crisis Management Coordination Center was set up and is operating, with the participation of the Hellenic Police, the Fire Brigade, EKAV, as well as Hellenic Train in order to better monitor the security systems and to proceed very quickly with the upgrading of all specifications safety of our rail network. We will do everything humanly possible for the Greek railway to regain the trust of the passenger public.

I believe that its implementation will also contribute to this Digital Job Card to utilities, including OSE and ERGOSE. It is something that I decided was necessary to do immediately, after what we saw happened at the Larissa Station on the fateful night of the accident, with stationmasters who were absent from their posts and the infamous “blanks”.

Thus, until the end of April, the Digital Work Card will be applied to OSE and ERGOSE but also to Fixed Communications, OSY, OASA, OSETH, OASTH, Attiko Metro, Building Infrastructures, Egnatia Odos, EYDAP and ELTA, and will concern approximately 18,000 employees .

I remind you that the Digital Work Card has begun to be gradually implemented in banks, supermarkets, in the branches of insurance companies and security companies. With its application, the recording of hours is shielded and the presence of employees at the workplace is certified in an unmistakable way that facilitates the immediate detection of false statements, either on the part of the employers or on the part of the employees.

Last week a very important provision was passed in Parliament which ensures – for the first time, explicitly by law, that the water remains a public good. It is unfortunate that the Opposition is trying to distort reality, claiming that the Government is promoting the privatization of water. Nothing more false. Water is a natural monopoly. It belongs to the state, to state companies.

And so that there are no doubts, in article 3 of the new law, it is very clearly defined that the water providers are public and municipal enterprises (the well-known DEWA). But what is perhaps not well known is that in Greece today there are 295 municipal organizations that manage water. Therefore, today 62% of water is wasted in them, only 42% of the DEYAs publicly post the data they are required by law, while in some cases there is twice the costing of water! Under SYRIZA 9 fines were imposed and with this government 62 fines for all these problems. We must and can do better. We want to correct these with an independent authority that constitutes public control with institutional continuity, which is why we need an Independent Authority that will control these organizations, and this is exactly what is done with the bill.

I am changing the subject completely, and I want to emphasize that there cannot be – we will not allow – “Galatian villages of lawlessness” to exist in Greek territory. At Mykonos the law will apply. That is why we voted for an amendment that suspends the issuance of building permits in the off-plan areas of Mykonos, except for minimal exceptions that meet the legal requirements. The competent body for granting the permits will be the Department of Architecture, Building Regulations and Licensing of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, i.e. a central service of the Ministry in Athens. We put a barrier to every illegal act, to every illegal plan that is attempted to be implemented with blackmail and illegal behavior.

Another thing that I consider very important is its development National Program to Prevent and Combat Obesity, both for adults and children. The Ministry of Health collaborated with the University of Western Attica and with UNICEF, respectively, in order to prepare a plan to deal with obesity, a problem that has also taken on dimensions in our country.

To give you an idea: based on recent data, only 30.3% of the general population is within normal weight limits, while 37.6% are overweight and 32.1% are obese. 3 out of 4 families have at least one overweight or obese parent. Of course, obesity is not an aesthetic issue. It is a matter of health, as it is a risk factor for many diseases. Precisely for this reason and the effort to combat it is part of the “Spyros Doxiadis” National Prevention Program for Public Health.

So the program for adults enables, among other things, to receive free services from specialist nutritionists, but also free specialized combined treatment in cases of severe obesity that coexists with serious chronic diseases.

On the other hand, the National Action on Childhood Obesity is aimed at children up to 17 years old throughout the Greek territory. Of course, in this effort, the participation of both parents and teachers is needed. The program provides free clinical assessment and counseling on children’s health, development, nutritional status and free counseling services by appropriately trained health professionals.
Both of these programs are financed by the Greece 2.0 Recovery and Resilience Fund.

On her forehead accuracy now. It’s been 21 weeks since we introduced the ‘Household Basket’, which has kept the prices of hundreds of products stable. And this is not something that we say only, but it is confirmed by a scientific study by EKPA and Philips University of Cyprus. On this occasion, however, I want to point out that Greece had the 6th lowest food inflation in the EU. on February. Countries such as France, Portugal, Germany, Belgium and Spain show higher inflation than us.
Obviously the introduced precision did not disappear. However, we are trying to mitigate the consequences and will do so for as long as necessary. Thus, in the run-up to Easter, the “Easter basket” will be created for supermarkets, with products such as lamb, goat, buns and chocolates, and the “Godfather’s and Godmother’s basket” will be exclusively for toy stores. These will start from the end of March and will last until April 15th.

Latest: this week signed the contract for the transfer of the assets of the HENA Shipyard in Skaramangas to the new investor, Mr. Prokopiou. It is the result of a great effort that we have made to give a new perspective to our shipyards, and we are really happy that, after so many years of the decline of a very important industry, all 3 of our shipyards will be back in business.

I leave you with a small but important image that we all saw this week, that of the three fragments of the frieze, metopes, and pediments of the Parthenon being attributed to the Acropolis Museum by the Vatican Museums.

And thank you very much for your time.

Good luck and once again Happy Birthday to everyone!”
