What Nikos Androulakis wants – How Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras react
By Antonis Anzoletou
The “unknown X” prime minister continues to fuel the pre-election confrontation between New Democracy, SYRIZA and PASOK. From Harilaou Trikoupi they explain that the project left behind by Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras is not a “good guide” for the former and current prime minister to take over the reins of the country again. They add that there are executives in the broader democratic space who can cope with this difficult role.
The rhetoric of Nikos Androulakis, accompanied by high-pitched criticism of the two major parties, is not new. It’s just that time is no longer neutral and conversations count triple. The elections are approaching and each “player” is trying to win as much as possible. No one is able to determine at this moment who the president of PASOK has in mind or if there has been any pre-consultation or even a “nod” to someone. A center-right strain with a positive sign? A widely accepted figure from the center field with no active involvement in political affairs at the moment? In any case, a role for his ideological position will be played by who will be the first to cut the thread of the elections. Unless the insistence on excluding the two leaders of New Democracy and SYRIZA finally leads PASOK to propose Nikos Androulakis as the person who should move to the ground floor of Herodos Attikou. And the last possibility can only be determined by the numbers that will be produced by the ballot box. If Harilaou Trikoupi surpasses her own expectations then everything can be considered open.
The new element that the Nikos Androulakis with his rhetoric is the red line he draws with the previous cooperation governments. It excludes the role of PASOK as a “supplement and monitor” party of the developments. Harilaou Trikoupi separates her position by pointing out that the vote of the centrist voters is not “lost”, but is a governance mandate based on the program drawn up by the party.
As far as PASOK’s internal affairs are concerned, Andreas Loverdos may have sent a message to the leadership that “I am not deleting myself”, however the fact that he pledged not to ask Nikos Androulakis again to say who he wants as prime minister served as a partial soothing effect. The barometric low remains, only the two sides have promised to stop the “arrows from both sides”. Because, however, his self-exemption from the party’s rules and statutes did not sound good, Harilaou Trikoupi pointed out. “PASOK-Movement of Change is in major institutional and programmatic conflict with the Mitsotakis system. Our comment from yesterday is valid in its entirety. For today’s interview, no comment.”
