The expansion of the checkpoints for PCR and rapid test was announced by the Deputy Minister of Interior, Stelios Petsas, speaking to SKAI and the show “Simera” in order to control the spread of the coronavirus in the community.
“Since last week we are doing everything possible to be ready to expand the points because in the next period with the number of cases that are on the rise, we will need to decongest these queues. Because in the queues can be citizens who also have symptoms and we do not want them to become a cause of dispersal. “There is an effort to expand these points either through EODY or in other ways and within the next 1-2 days the relevant announcements will be made”, he stated characteristically.
He added that the need for testing will multiply now that schools will open. Especially for the schools, he noted that the government follows the suggestions of the experts, while commenting on the decision not to modify the protocol for the closure of the departments, he underlined that “if the percentage is reduced from 50% + 1 to 30% + 1 or even lower math leads to school closures “.
At the same time, Mr. Petsas confirmed that the government is considering extending the obligation of vaccination to citizens aged 50 and over, emphasizing that the relevant announcements will be made in the coming days. “The decision to include age criteria in the mandatory nature of the vaccine also paid off, possibly if it is necessary to lower the age limits even further. This will be done in the coming days. “Not in professional categories, but in age categories”, he clarified and clarified that the fine of 100 euros per month for those who have not been vaccinated over the age of 60 will be applied normally after January 16th.
Regarding the operation of state-of-the-art services with the registration of cases among employees, the Deputy Minister of Interior stated that “I expect disruption in the production process in both the public and the private sector in the next two weeks”. In fact, he added that the ministry is preparing an emergency plan in order to see what percentages it may need to reform, however this will be seen from Monday onwards when the employees return from their leave. “We are open to do whatever is necessary so that there are no significant disturbances or to reduce them to the lowest possible level,” he said.
Regarding the course of the pandemic, Mr. Petsas stated that it is fortunate that Omicron dominates over the Delta because it is milder and has a shorter life cycle. “If there is a universal dominance of Omicron, the health system will endure as well. “But we must act quickly so as not to give way to other mutations that may be more dangerous.” However, he estimated that these days the number of cases will peak, noting that “50,000 I think is a little”.
