The constitutional expert called it a huge shock Nikos Alivizatos the news that the former deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Anastasios Kanellopoulos, he will lead his party Ilias Kasidiaris in the May 21 elections.

Speaking to SKAI 100.3, Mr. Alivizatos pointed out the disapproval of his three brothers of An. Kanellopoulos, saying that for him it is a relief, as two of the three are supreme judges and the third a lawyer.

“The Constitution does not prohibit fascists from joining politics and someone can come out and say they are a follower of Mussolini or Hitler and join politics as long as they don’t use violence or assault battalions like Golden Dawn did,” said Mr. Alivizatos.

With reference to the decision of the Supreme Court, which is expected to rule on the matter in early May, the constitutional expert underlined that “Mr. Kanellopoulos is faced with the dilemma of whether to test the law by submitting the candidacy of Ilias Kasidiaris himself, which is a direct questioning the law and the Supreme Court will be called to say that someone who has been convicted cannot be a candidate or to say ‘I am not nominating Kasidiaris and appointing another person’.
