“I heard that Mr. Mitsotakis agreed to hold a dialogue. We are all waiting to see it because last time he had denied it. A pre-election dialogue should have multiple discussions in order for the people to be informed and to be able to objectively decide what choice they will make in the elections. The reason must be programmatic and away from barren confrontations”, said SYRIZA MP and former minister Olga Gerovasilis to SKAI and the show “Kalimera” with Giorgos Autias.

“The history of the country does not start in 2015. The history has a lot behind it and it starts before 2015, it has behind it two memoranda that failed to get the country out of the memoranda and therefore we had to adopt and carry out a third Memorandum. These two memoranda had 12 pension reductions. Of course, things were not pleasant these days. However, the memorandum obligations from which we fought to free the country, were adopted and legislated under Samaras, Venizelos and earlier”, added Ms. Gerovasilis.

Referring to water, Ms. Gerovasili emphasized that “the privatization of water along with a series of privatizations – which was the central narrative of the memorandums – SYRIZA fought to keep the majority packages in the public sector. We maintained the memorandum obligation with a majority package in the public sector. The current Prime Minister, Mr. Mitsotakis, promised in the 2019 elections to be a strategic investor in water. Strategic investor I don’t know what it means other than a private person”, pointing out that on Monday SYRIZA will table “an amendment to adjust with the decision of the CoE and Mr. Mitsotakis will have the opportunity to vote on it. As long as he is sure and promises it for the next four years, he has the opportunity to do it tomorrow.”

“On the one hand, we have the decision of the CoE and it is owed and it is a public good and the shares must be returned. The regulatory authority was recently voted by the government. Regulators are there to control competition in the free market. What free market in water does Mr. Mitsotakis dream of and a few days ago he legislated a regulatory authority for water? At the time when the ND legislated the existence of a regulatory authority, Greece rose up. She did not rise up and she is not stupid because to establish a regulatory authority means privatisation”, argued Ms Gerovasili.

Asked about possible post-election cooperation with Mr. Varoufakis, Ms. Gerovasili replied: “The ballot box will answer. I estimate that the day after the elections the country will have a government, provided that SYRIZA will be the first party. And it is very likely that there will be cooperation with PASOK”.
