“Until we resolve these issues, there will be a positive atmosphere in between, but then there will be some breach, then some dogfight, tension in the airwaves and maybe even an accident. In other words, anything can happen…”, emphasized the Turkish Foreign Minister
The issue of the sovereignty of the Greek islands in the Aegean is again raised by the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglualthough he points out the good climate that prevails between Greece and Turkey at this time.
As reported by the SKAI correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidisthe head of Turkish diplomacy referred in an interview to A Haber to the unresolved disputes with Greece and even said that “we should not be selective, but take all issues to the international court”.
“In the Aegean there is the issue of the islands whose sovereignty has not been determined, there are the violations I have mentioned before. There is the question of the airspace that for the 6 miles claim the 10 miles. There are some statements that mention the extension of territorial waters from 6 to 12 miles. All these issues are issues of disputes that have not been resolved for many years.
We will go to an international court. But for this to happen, Turkey and Greece they must agree. And we shouldn’t be selective, we have to go to all issues”, he said characteristically.
“Until we resolve these issues, there will be a positive atmosphere in between, but then there will be some breach, then some dogfight, tension in the airwaves and maybe even an accident. That is, anything can happen and this positive atmosphere will disappear soon. We have to decide how to resolve them. Will we consult on each issue separately? In my opinion, we should discuss everything as a package. Because if we solve one issue, the tension will continue in the other,” he added.
Referring to relations with the US he said: “The issues we cannot agree with the US have not yet been resolved. If the US wants to act as an honest broker, it needs to take a more anti-Kim stance.. The F35 program is currently suspended. We saw that management put a lot of effort into the F16. If the US government stands firm, the problems will be solved, but it seems they don’t want to face Congress. We are also observing this.”
Regarding Egypt, he said: “We said that we have started working on the appointment of ambassadors. After we agreed with Israel to reappoint the ambassadors, we determined the names. Finally, we reach this stage. We can announce this during the visit of the Egyptian Foreign Minister to Turkey. We’ll talk when it arrives. We were very well received in Egypt. Our visit was extremely positive. Now is the time to slowly take concrete steps.”
