“It is a big lie and a lot of mud to accept that Mr. Androulakis – who was also his close associate Ms. Chronopoulou – found out about it on Easter Monday, while Alexis Tsipras knew about it years before and hid it,” said Mr. Papadimoulis
In 2022, there were some vague rumors about Alexis Georgoulis, nothing to do with the specific complaint, which we learned about on Easter Monday, shortly before it was announced, said SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis speaking to SKAI.
“That’s why I want to say that it is a big lie and a big mud and shame for the political system to accept that Mr. Androulakis -who was also his close associate Ms. Chronopoulou- found out on Easter Monday while Alexis Tsipras he knew years ago and hid it,” said Mr. Papadimoulis.
He added that “even in the European People’s Party, which is the biggest political force in the European Parliament, they say they learned about it on Monday. Didn’t they know it and Tsipras knew it and was hiding it?”
Mr. Papadimoulis repeated that after the rumors in 2022, Mr. Georgoulis was asked and categorically denied them. “We did everything we could, we asked everyone about the rumours,” added Mr. Papadimoulis.
Regarding the information that more complaints are coming against Alexis Georgoulis, he said: “I ask them to resort to justice so that everything can be decided”.
And he added: “If we learned from somewhere that this complaint exists, I would ask my colleague Nikos Androulakis, despite our political differences, to tell me what is happening and to put me in touch with the complainant.”
“I assure you that based on the principles of SYRIZA and my personal principles, I would have made a recommendation since then that he be expelled from the party, as we did instantly as soon as we learned of the complaint.”
For the 2022 period, he said that since then he had informed the party leadership and in consultation with the party and Euro-group “we did everything”.
However, the rumors did not persist, as he said, but a mistrust remained, and for that reason we were ready if the rumors became a complaint, as they unfortunately belatedly became, to act instantly.
Mr. Papadimoulis emphasized that SYRIZA’s principle is zero tolerance in matters of harassment and sexual violence, we are with the victim, not with the alleged perpetrator.
Regarding the publication of Eleni Chronopoulou’s information, Mr. Papadimoulis said: “I consider the publication of the information in her absence unacceptable and I consider it unfair to accuse the PASOK leadership that it was done by SYRIZA and I invite the PASOK leadership to give names because otherwise it is heavy slander against SYRIZA”.
