Yanis Varoufakis conveyed encouraging messages from all over the country, where he has been touring in recent weeks, to the voters and executives of MeRA25-Alliance for the Break in Athens, speaking at the central pre-election gathering of the party, in National Resistance Square (Town Hall).

“So far the mourning for the betrayed referendum. Time for another twist.

So far the rot. Time for the first rupture”, the head of the political organization underlined in the introduction of his speech. A speech that was interspersed with the major political events of the current and previous century, the Left’s stance on them in particular.

“We are not here simply to celebrate our strengthening in the Parliament, which, believe me, is certain. No, we are here with something much bigger, much more beautiful. We’re here to celebrate the emergence of the new great militant Left, which will leave everyone speechless after this Sunday’s election, or, to be more precise, after the second election in July. When the memorandum arc will have managed to overcome its internal quarrels and form another memorandum government, before bringing the new measures that the troika will impose on them”, he estimated.

At this point, in fact, he referred to the recent statement of the executive of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, Giorgos Katrougalos: “What, do you think, was the crime of Mr. Katrougalos? He spoke about what all the memorists know, but which they keep as a sealed secret before the elections. Either with ND, with SYRIZA or with some combination of ND-PASOK-SYRIZA, measures are coming. It could not be otherwise: State, insurance funds and the private sector are sinking deeper and deeper into the black hole of bankruptcy. This is the fate of any government that honors and accepts the memorandum framework. We neither honor nor accept it.”

At the same time, G. Varoufakis made a mini-account of the parliamentary activity of MeRA25 in the previous four years, when “a handful of MPs who sweated the jersey of “No” (of the referendum) submitting a disproportionate number of technically sound and politically radical Law Proposals , amendments, questions and queries. A parliamentary project that, if one did not know that it was taken up by a few MPs, one would think that we had a Parliamentary Group of 50, 60 or 80 MPs!”.

At another point in his speech, he underlined three factors that make the party he leads different, as he claimed, from other parties: “First, we do not ask for a mandate. Second, our cohesive program. Third, our modern internationalist, ecological discourse.

Insisting on the first factor, he explained “why we reject the idea of delegation that systemic parties, which were once on the Left, such as PASOK and SYRIZA, ask from voters. Instead of reactionary delegation, we raise the vision of a united front of movements, organizations, parties that will wrest power to give it, to give it back to those who have no power over their own lives, thereby falling victims of increasingly harsh exploitation”.

According to G. Varoufakis, “in “MeRA25-Alliance for Breakup” we are not saying to the people “vote us to save you”. In “MeRA25-Alliance for the Break” we do not say to the movements of students, workers, ecology “get behind us” to realize your dreams, to justify your struggles. No, “MeRA25-Alliance for the Break” we ask them: What can we do for you?”.

As, on the other hand, he stated at a later point in his speech, “they see and are afraid of the dynamics of our project as only the first step towards the creation of the new great Greek disobedient, selfless, insubordinate Left. Which is steadily oriented, spearheaded by the government’s immediately implementable 100-day program to protect the many in social transformation, which will bring about the self-managed, decentralized, ecological, feminist socialism of the future.”

At the same time, he repeated his answer to the official opposition leader: “I heard Mr. Tsipras say: “Mr. Varoufakis excluded himself from the invitation of the progressive forces”. No, Mr. Tsipras: MeRA25-Alliance for the Break has excluded itself from the distribution of Ministries organized by you, Mr. Tsipras, to those who accept to co-govern at the mercy of the oligarchy with a progressive guise.” After all, he continued, “for us, breaking in practice means one thing: Without prior negotiation with anyone, we will legislate our government’s 100-Day program.”

And, in conclusion, “in order to leave, therefore, not only Mitsotakis but also the existing Mitsotakissom, a rupture with the memorial arc is required, not a change within the memorial arc. To be precise, the inter-memorandum exchange advocated by SYRIZA and PASOK is a guarantee of the perpetuation of Mitsotakism, under another name, in the post-Mitsotakis era”.
