The statement of the Member of Parliament of Serres and former Minister of Transport Costas Karamanlis, on the occasion of the final election result, at the National level, as well as the region of Serres
“For the first time, the leader of the official opposition came to Serres to personally confront a candidate for parliament. He was crushed by an entire Prefecture, which turned its back on him” said the day after the elections the deputy of Serres and former Minister of Transport Kostas Karamanlis after the final election result, at the national level, but also in the Serres district where he is elected first in votes and occupies one of the two seats corresponding to the ND.
At 99.17% of integration, Kostas Karamanlis received very close to the percentage he received in the 2019 election, which was 25,377 votes against 23,168 votes in 2023.
The former Minister of Transport of the New Democracy resigned from his government position due to the tragic accident in Tempe.
The Karamanlis statement in detail
“The election result is a huge victory for New Democracy and Kyriakos Mitsotakis personally. It is a result unprecedented in our modern political history, which fills our faction with responsibility.
In these elections, two political schools faced off: On the one hand, the school of responsibility, program and projects. Against the school of populism, hostility and demagoguery.
Citizens with maturity chose the policy of responsibility and results. They chose stability and continuity. They mandated New Democracy to continue the hard work and plan the next day of the country. To safely hold the helm of the homeland, as this faction has learned to do in the most critical periods for the country.
At this time, however, in addition to the great joy for the historic victory of the faction, I cannot hide my deep emotion for the resounding response given by the people of Serraia to the immeasurable personal attacks I received.
For the first time, the leader of the official opposition came to Serres to personally confront a candidate for parliament. He was crushed by an entire Prefecture, which turned its back on him.
Because Serres proved that it is indeed a Castle of Democracy. And Castles do not fall with demagoguery and cynical populist practices. The Castles remain standing because there are Citizens who stand out and highlight the truth and punish political adventurism.
I thank my fellow citizens for their support. And I promise them that my motto: “Together we continue”, is a commitment. Together we move forward, for Serres, for the new Greece.
And this effort starts today. Always with moderation, seriousness and political culture, we all move forward together for the great victory in the next elections, which will elect the strong, independent government that the country needs”.
