It took about half an hour the meeting of political leaders under the president of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The meeting, held in accordance with constitutional requirements, was attended by the five leaders of the parties represented in the Parliament that was elected last Sunday, and its aim was to establish the impossibility of forming a new government.

Leaving the presidential palace, the political leaders did not make any statement: The Prime Minister and president of the ND Kyriakos Mitsotakis came out together with the president of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras and the president of Hellenic Solution Kyriakos Velopoulos, followed by the president of PASOK-KINAL Nikos Androulakis with secretary of the KKE Dimitris Koutsoubas.

Now at one o’clock in the afternoon, Mr. Ioannis Sarmas, president of the Court of Auditors – the most senior in the leadership of the supreme court, receives an order to form a caretaker government as caretaker prime minister and to be sworn in tomorrow Thursday, so that the day after tomorrow the caretaker cabinet with which the country will go to the new elections on June 25 with an enhanced proportional electoral system.

The parliament “of one day” will be sworn in on Sunday and the following morning its presidency will be elected. The dissolution of this parliament will take place on Monday afternoon and from that moment the country will once again be officially in a pre-election period. In the elections of June 25, citizens will not put a cross of preference on candidates, as they will be done with a list – based on the order they occupied in last Sunday’s elections.
