THE Socrates Katsikas is expected to assume the duties of Minister of Digital Governance in the caretaker government and take over from Kyriakos Pierrakakis.

We should mention that Sokratis K. Katsikas was born in Athens in 1960. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Patras (1982), a Master of Science in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, USA (1984) and a Dr. /Y & Informatics of the University of Patras (1987). Today he is a professor of the Department of Digital Systems at the University of Piraeus, a member of the expert group of the European University Association (EUA) evaluation program of university institutions and president of the governing committee of the same program. He was rector (2003-2006) and vice-rector (1997-2003) of the University of the Aegean, member of the Quality Assurance Authority in Higher Education (2006-2008), member of the Communications Privacy Assurance Authority (2008-2009), vice-president of Panhellenia Federation of Associations of Faculty Members (POSDEP) (2009), National Representative in the Program committee of the “People” Program of the 7th Framework Program of the European Union (2007-2009), general secretary of Telecommunications and Posts of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks (2009 – 2012), member of the IT committee of the Greek Government (2011 – 2012), chairman of the Advisory Technical Council of the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Electronic Government, chairman of the Council of Higher University Education (2013-2014) and chairman of the National Education Council (2013-2015) ).

His research interests are in the areas of security of information and communication systems and applications of estimation theory. He is the author or co-author of more than 230 publications in scientific journals, book chapters and proceedings of scientific conferences and has participated in more than 60 European and national Research and Development programs, as a researcher, as a scientific director, and as a program director in these areas. He participates in the scientific review committees of articles of several scientific journals, has written or edited the publication of 33 books and has participated or chaired the scientific committees of more than 400 scientific international conferences.
