Against PASOK turns o representative of New Democracy Akis Schertsos, speaking of “Martyrs No. 2” on the occasion of statements of the State ballot candidates, Panagiotis Doudonis and Elenis Chronopoulou.

“At May 21 the citizens voted in favor of economic realism and fiscal responsibility, in favor of clarity in the program positions of the parties and the consistency of words and projects. In favor, that is, of those who express the ND program for the next four years but also the deeds of the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the previous four years. At the same time, the citizens voted against the creative ambiguity that ultimately causes insecurity for citizens and businesses, they voted against the cost-free programs but also the dangerous experiments with taxes, contributions and incomes of workers and businesses” notes Akis Schertsos.

“Unfortunately, the Opposition parties, both SYRIZA and PASOK, do not seem to have received this message from the ballot box and continue to provoke with the vagueness of their programs and the statements of their executives.

“Yesterday and today, it was PASOK’s turn that, with consecutive television appearances by two of its top executives and candidates for the State ballot, Mr. Doudonis and Ms. Chronopoulos, it revealed without specifying its nebulous and dangerous tax plans.

As the ND representative reports, the two new “witnesses” – PASOK this time – revealed three measures:

  1. the increase in the tax on corporate dividends
  2. the extraordinary taxation of large businesses and
  3. the reintroduction of taxation on parental benefits.

The first two are extremely problematic because they put a brake on the record growth of private investment that has occurred in recent years. An increase that is a major development requirement to cover the long-term investment gap in the Greek economy and to create new jobs.

According to Mr. Schertsos, “beyond the legal uncertainty and the discouragement of investments caused by the sudden changes in tax rates, especially the increase in dividend taxation is also an unfair policy for Greek businesses. This happens because foreign investments are governed in terms of taxation by the provisions of the bilateral agreements to avoid double taxation which are concluded and which in turn are based on the OECD model where dividends are taxed at 5%. So the dividends of Greek companies will be taxed more, but not of foreigners who will still be taxed compulsorily at 5%”. It is, he says, a proposal that ultimately strengthens foreign competition and serves the “de-Hellenization” of the Greek economy.

“And the proposal for extraordinary taxation of large companies is completely vague in terms of its scope and the level of the rates and therefore causes insecurity and ultimately erodes the confidence of investors in the Greek economy,” he adds.

“As far as parental benefits are concerned, it is at least curious why a party which claims to represent young people, chooses to put an obstacle in the way of them starting their lives with more financial resources by forcing them to pay tax on the transfer of their family property. property” he comments.

“The redistribution of more opportunities to young people to live a better life than previous generations is a top priority of the New Democracy and is served by many policies including the abolition of taxation on parental benefits.”

“In any case, regarding PASOK’s priceless and dangerous financial program, we will come back tomorrow with a more specific announcement so that there are no airs,” Mr. Skertsos concludes.
