In the comment of his representative PASOKDimitris Mantzou for him Akis Schertso New Democracy responds with a statement, speaking of “dangerous ignorance and sloppiness”.

“Today at the briefing for political editors, the representative of New Democracy, Mr. Skertsos, debunked 10 fake news of the opposition. A few hours later, Mr. Manzos decided to add one more, confirming the extent of the dangerous ignorance and sloppiness possessed by PASOK. So, we inform PASOK about something it should know, especially if it wants to pretend to be the “serious” opposition!

On 30/12/2022 the Greek State collected 373.54 million euros as an extraordinary levy of 90% from the increase in the gross profit margin of electricity producers, as calculated by RAE, in the context of the international energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine in 2022. For the record, this amount is included as a collected revenue for 2022 in the Medium-term Stability Plan 2023-2026 that our country has submitted to the EU, on page 20, line 12 under the title “price cap mechanism and levy on electricity producers windfall profits” (the relevant file is attached). We are really sorry that after the new taxes competition, PASOK is competing with SYRIZA in the fake news competition as well!

As for PASOK’s insistence on punishing young Greek men and women by taxing parental benefits, we repeat that this is an ineffective measure that slows down the redistribution of resources and opportunities to the new generation instead of facilitating it, as PASOK thinks, as we are talking about a tax that yielded just €26m a year to the public purse, while at the same time acting as a major disincentive to property transfers and cash donations to young people early in life.”
