Tsakalotos described the SYRIZA program as “socially sustainable”.
The program proposals of SYRIZA-PS for the housing policy were presented by Euclid Tsakalotos during the event for the presentation of the SYRIZA program.
E. Tsakalotos described his program as “socially sustainable”. SYRIZAstressing that what he wants is a “social, developmental state” that will take care in order to “make us all richer”, contrasting it with the program of the Right.
Right to decent housing, protection of the first home
The measures referred to by E. Tsakalotos are the following:
– Doubling the rent subsidy for young people aged 25-44 and broadening the income criteria for inclusion.
-Creation of a Housing Bank to grant affordable housing to young families.
-Restrictive rules on Airbnb
-Suspension of auctions of first homes up to 300,000 euros and a holistic policy for the regulation of private debt.
Concluding his presentation, E. Tsakalotos referred to the period when he was the head of the negotiating team with the troika, pointing out that the said team not only succeeded in getting the country out of the memorandums, leaving the “cushion” and settling the debt, but what’s more, it did all this by “reducing inequalities and child poverty” and ensuring access to public health care for the uninsured. Therefore, regarding the questioning of the cost of the SYRIZA program, he emphasized that they have demonstrated that a “serious fiscal policy” can be combined with finding resources for necessary social policies.
He even made a “promise” to the world, that just as SYRIZA did not forget in 2015 – 2019 which social groups it is negotiating with the troika for, so it will be done in a future government under Alexis Tsipras.
