An announcement about the discussion he had with Dora Bakoyannis – both invited to a morning television show – was issued by George Tsipras, candidate for parliament of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance in Western Attica.

The announcement:

“The editing of the ND again on the project

I pointed out to Ms. Bakoyannis on a TV show that the International Community often keeps an equal distance from Greece and Turkey despite the aggression of the latter. In support I cited the example of the US regarding UNCLOS, the Convention on the Law of the Sea. A number of US officials invoke the law of the sea for the South China Sea and for almost all the world’s seas except the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean. The relevant video exists and it is very clear what I am saying and what I am not saying.

I say “For example, UNCLOS, the convention on the Law of the Sea, refers BY THE UNITED STATES to all the seas of the world, the Arabian Sea, the China Sea, etc. The only area that is not explicitly mentioned it is the Aegean”.

The editors of the SW and the media system they direct erase the reference to the US and show me claiming that “UNCLOS does not mention the Aegean” and therefore does not concern it.

For anyone interested in defending our sovereign rights in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean which clearly derive from International Law and especially the Convention on the Law of the Sea, the above note on the US position would at least be helpful. Obviously, it is the last thing that interests the editor, Mrs. Bakoyannis and ND. We will see the rest in the next four years…”
