In the 538th electoral division of the Municipality of Patras, which is housed in the 2nd high school of the city, the former Prime Minister Giorgos Papandreou exercised his right to vote.

Mr. Papandreou appeared to be in a particularly cheerful mood as he is being hosted at the polling station in the school complex where his grandfather George Papandreou had attended many years ago.

“Democracy is under threat. It is threatened by the concentration of wealth, power and media in the hands of the few. It is threatened by the digital platforms that control us, monitor us every day. It is threatened by impoverishment, huge inequalities, climate change but also the demagogic reactions of polarization and authoritarianism,” said former Prime Minister George Papandreou.

“Today we do our democratic duty and with our vote we choose representatives of the Greek people. But, Democracy is not only an electoral system. Democracy is our everyday culture. Democracy is the voice of the citizen every day. That’s why, starting tomorrow, we continue the fight for Democracy”, added Mr. Papandreou.
