The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a notice regarding the rejection of the request of the elected Mayor of Chiemarra Freddy Beleris for a special exit permit in order to attend and take the oath at the first meeting of the Municipal Council.

According to her, “the goal of the Albanian authorities is to deprive him, without a final conviction and without even having been charged, of the office of Mayor”.

“As a candidate for joining the European family, Albania should respect the rule of law and the presumption of innocence,” concluded the ministry’s announcement.

The announcement in detail

“The request of the elected Mayor of Heimarra, Fredy Beleris, to receive a special permit, so that he could participate tomorrow in the first meeting of the new Municipal Council, as well as to be sworn in and officially assume his duties, was rejected today.

This rejection now demonstrates, beyond any doubt, that the goal of the Albanian authorities is to deprive him, without a final conviction and without even having been charged, of the office of Mayor, to which he was democratically elected by the citizens of the region.
