The developments in the political scene are proceeding at a rapid pace after yesterday’s elections and the self-reliance victory of the ND as well as the composition of the new eight-party Parliament. The new government line-up was announced on Monday afternoon and is set to be sworn in tomorrow at 1pm to jump straight into the fray, with the first bills ready to be voted on in the coming weeks.

The priorities of the new government

The new government has already compiled the calendar with its obligations until the completion of the first quarter of the country’s governance. From the very first ministerial term, the message of Kyriakos Mitsotakis which he will convey to the new ministers is that this is a government of reforms.

The increase in wages, the restructuring of the NHS, the reduction of inequalities and social cohesion are the drivers of government action. In addition, the reduction of taxes on real estate and businesses, creation of a more favorable framework for investments, return of EYDAP – EYATH to the State, cuts to the State and the Judiciary are among the immediate priorities of the government.

Also, structural changes such as the transfer to the Ministry of Finance of all financial tools as well as the transfer of the responsibilities of Sports to Education are also priorities of the government.

The first bills

The first bills that the new government is preparing to bring to Parliament as soon as possible are also ready. Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced that the first two bills will concern the updating and upgrading of ehost state, with a focus on addressing past dysfunctions and better coordination between ministries.

The second bill will include all commitments in the tax field for a four-year horizon. It should be noted that some of the main commitments included in the government program of the ND for the next four years, are the gradual reduction of the pretense fee until its final abolition at the end of 2027, the increase from January 1, 2024 of the tax-free by 1,000 euros for families with children, the reduction by one additional unit of the insurance contributions and the reduction of the subsistence allowance by 30% on average from January 1, 2025.

Also, the first bills will include the pre-election commitment of the ND president for the return of EYDAP and EYATH the full control of the State by the Superfund, but also the necessary interventions in the area of ​​Justice.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself has set a deadline for the passage of the three bills at the Thessaloniki International Fair.
