In SYRIZA they have a lot of things to sort out and next week will be particularly critical.

The departure of Alexis Tsipras from the leadership caused the “absolute storm” in Koumoundourou. From the second crushing defeat onwards, it “rained torrentially”, but all the executives “held an umbrella” waiting for the announcements about the change of page in the party. They came, but they did not include the former prime minister. And now everything starts all over again.

Tomorrow at 12 noon, the Political Secretariat will meet, expecting some “light at the end of the tunnel”. The road map for electing a new leader and holding a Congress has not been drawn and everyone is waiting to know what the framework will be.

Everything shows that there will be two separate procedures going marginally in relation to the “letter” of the statute. There is a suggestion that the procedures for the selection of the new president run as soon as possible, even in July and in September for the Congress to take place.

Who can guarantee, however, that the election screens that will be set up will not be empty? In the heart of the summer and after two electoral contests, no one is sure about the mobilization of the approximately 170,000 members.

It’s a high-risk move that needs good planning and a clear mind, as the citizens are already tired. Two things that the official opposition currently does not have. The second crushing defeat has detuned its mechanisms and awakening is not an easy task.

The other proposal envisages the election of a leader in early September, before the TIF and the holding of the Congress around the fall. The “Presidents” and the “Umbrella” met on Friday in order to come up with a schedule, but also to come up with the persons they will propose for the presidency. Without having opened their papers, Efi Ahtsioglou, Alexis Haritsis, Euclides Tsakalotos, Rena Dourou, Dionysis Teboneras and Pavlos Polakis are the six persons who are still said to be active in the “game” of succession. Surprises should not be ruled out on the way to the polls especially from the ranks of the majority.

The other “crossword puzzle” they have to solve in SYRIZA is who will be appointed head of the parliamentary groupas the program statements in the Parliament begin on Thursday.
