The priorities, goals and reforms of the next four years for the Greek Police were presented by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Mr. Notis Mitarakis during his speech in Parliament, in the context of the government’s programmatic statements.
Mr. Mitarakis said that “our main priority will be the tackling and preventing petty crime. […] So that there is no feeling of impunity in society. On the contrary, there should be certain small penalties for small acts, so that it acts as a deterrent to crime.”
He then noted that “the Traffic will be supported with personnel, to take to the streets. Equipped with tablets, fully connected. So that it can directly charge administrative fines which will be transferred to taxis”.
Referring to its phenomena domestic, intra-school and racist violence Mr. Mitarakis emphasized that the goal is to protect vulnerable social groups. “To support these initiatives we will proceed with the recruitment of a total of 200 psychologists and social workers who will staff the Police services.”
At the same time, he referred to the digital transformation of the Greek Police. “At the same time, we are planning to bring the Police to the citizen’s mobile phone. With the MyELAS app. With access to application applications and electronic appointments for every service that concerns the Citizen. As we modernize the services provided,” he said.
Referring to migratorysaid that Greece will continue to implement a strict but fair immigration policy and that the goal is to further limit illegal immigration by effectively guarding our borders and deporting those who are not entitled to international protection.
“In this context, we proceed to completion of the Evros Dam in the framework of the decision of KYSEA with a completion horizon – in its entirety – at the end of 2025″, he pointed out.
Mr. Mitarakis committed himself to “the emblematic project, the relocation of the Korydallos Penitentiary Complex to Aspropyrgos. The new facilities will be developed on an area of 100 acres and will include 14 wings, with a capacity of 200 people each.”
