The goals and priorities of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport were analyzed by Christos Staikouras in his article in the “Parapolitika” Newspaper.
As Mr. Staikouras underlined, “Infrastructure and transport are key pillars for improving the quality of life of citizens, reducing regional inequalities, strengthening social cohesion, increasing competitiveness and stimulating economic growth, sustainable development and the well-being of a country.
Having these as facts, at the core of the strategic targeting of the new political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport are:
– The effective promotion of ongoing projects and the realistic planning of a new set of projects
– Improving infrastructure and transport security
– Improving the quality of projects and services
– The improvement of the efficiency of the used resources, national and European
– Promoting the productivity and efficiency of all structures in the sector
– Strengthening “green” infrastructure and transport
– The rational use of precious water resources”
In particular, according to Mr. Staikouras, “To best approach these goals, 10 priorities are set:
1st. The launch, implementation and completion of iconic infrastructure projects, such as, among others, the Thessaloniki Metro, the Central Greece Motorway (E65), the Northern Crete Motorway (BOAK), the Patras-Pyrgos Motorway, the Bralos-Amfissa Motorway , the extensions of the Athens metro.
2nd. The renewal of the bus fleet, with the supply of new zero-emission vehicles, in Athens and Thessaloniki.
3rd. The modernization and improvement of the resilience of main sectors of the economy, such as the upgrading and restructuring of the system and infrastructure of the Greek railway network.
4th. The upgrade of the air traffic control system and the reorganization of the Civil Aviation Service.
5th. The strengthening of road safety, through the implementation of a National Strategic Plan, with a vision harmonized with the strategies and actions of the European Union and the UN.
6th. The strengthening of gas propulsion, electric propulsion and hydrogen propulsion.
7th. The implementation of investments in the National Irrigation Network.
8th. The support of contactless payments, by introducing the use of bank cards and mobile phones for travel by public transport.
9th. The digitization of the Ministry’s work.
10th. The development of a strategic plan and road map for the implementation of BIM in Greece”.
As the minister characteristically stated, “For the realization of these goals and priorities, we will work, all together, hard, with coherence, honesty, speed, determination and efficiency, being aware of our debt towards the country and its perspective”.
