O Kyriakos Mitsotakis never discussed or accepted a discussion on issues concerning Greek citizens and sovereign issues of the country in the discussion between the Greek and Turkish delegations on the sidelines of the NATO summit, diplomatic sources clarify, commenting on statements by the Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan.

In the discussion that took place between the Greek and Turkish delegations on the sidelines of the summit, the two sides raised various issues, the diplomatic sources explain.

Between them, the Greek prime minister also raised the issue of the interventions of the Turkish consulate in the Rhodopes during the recent pre-election period. “Regarding the question of the Muslim minority of Thrace, which the Turkish side has been raising throughout the years, the Greek Prime Minister has never discussed or accepted a discussion on issues concerning Greek citizens and sovereign issues of the country” they said.

“Therefore, let the official opposition not worry. Foreign policy is in safe hands,” the diplomatic sources conclude.

At the meeting with the prime minister on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Vilnius, the Turkish president mentioned earlier on Friday according to SKAI’s Istanbul correspondent Manolis Kostidis.

“From the point of view of History, our experiences are given, and we do not wish to continue In this way. Mr. Mitsotakis went through new elections, just like us. As two election winning leaders we want to take steps in a positive direction,” Tayyip Erdogan told reporters after Friday prayers.

The Turkish president added, however, that “as for me, the main issue I raised with him is about the problems of Western Thrace. We want to overcome these… To overcome the issue with the muftis. And our ambassadors will hold meetings, they will make the preparations as well as our foreign ministers, and later the two leaders will meet and take the necessary steps.”
