SYRIZA needs both continuity and intersection, emphasized Euclid Tsakalotos in his position at the closed session of the KE.

Mr. Tsakalotos, who announced his candidacy for the presidency of the party yesterday, said that after the defeat, reflection, thought and collectiveness are needed, adding that this can be done on the way to the congress. “But the point is to know where we want to go. We need to know where we want to be in 2026 and therefore know how we need to start preparing now for then.” He noted that there is not a single leftist, not a single leftist who does not want to address a wide audience.

But this, he said, SYRIZA must do with a stable and reliable identity “and therefore you must have clear and known priorities”. In the same context, he emphasized that SYRIZA must be clear about its positions on public and free education, on health, on the welfare state. He also noted that the party can be clear with the guarding of the borders as well as with international law and safe passages.

Mr. Tsakalotos said that SYRIZA must convince the people with its positions and that it must make these positions hegemonic in society, with these positions it must become a government again, with these positions it must improve people’s lives. He spoke about the changes taking place in the world political chessboard, noting that SYRIZA cannot not process these changes, not have positions on industrial policy, development, labor.

He spoke of a democratic party of members, with accountability, with procedures, with institutions. A party with political culture. For a party “where the president should be first among equals.” He talked about groups for processing positions and proposals, so that SYRIZA has documented positions on every issue. Mr. Tsakalotos closed his position by saying that his goal is to give back to the leftists, to the members of SYRIZA-PS the self-confidence, the confidence and the pride to fight for their arguments, their positions and their values. To have a reliable big party, a party that will become a government again.
