A few days later, the mayor of Athens proposed to the Municipal Council of Athens a resolution of support, which pointed out the need for Albania to comply with European standards and stated that “the national Greek minority has the right to enjoy its freedom, with respect to its particularities, historical identity and its traditions”.
“The neighboring country is called upon to harmonize with European data, providing conditions of safety and protection of private and community property and with respect for self-governing institutions and human life. He must immediately release the two men following the rules of international law”, said the resolution, as at the time, together with Fredis Beleris, the vice-president of the Chimarriots’ Union, Pantelis Kokavesis, was also detained.
It is recalled that the resolution of the Municipal Council was accepted by a majority, as the factions of SYRIZA (Open City), KKE (People’s Solidarity of Athens), ANTARSYA and Anti-Capitalist Upheaval for Athens voted against, while the faction of Pavlos Geroulanos voted in favor “Athena is You.” Present at the Municipal Council meeting were the son of Fredis Beleris, Petros, the brother of Leonardos, as well as the president of Chimarriots of Athens, Thodoris Goumas.
