SYRIZA-PS criticizes the prime minister with his announcement, for his attitude in relation to the murder in New Philadelphia.

“For four days now, Mr. Mitsotakis has not found a word to say about the brutal murder in New Philadelphia,” reports SYRIZA and adds: “While he remains missing, today it became known from his office that he will appear on August 16 , where he will meet the president of UEFA and the presidents of the PAE. It is obvious that Mr. Mitsotakis wants to show that he is taking initiatives to deal with fan violence.”

He then underlines: “However, the fact that 200 neo-Nazi hooligans from Croatia entered and crossed half the country unmolested to Athens with the tragic conclusion of the murder of a young man, is not a simple case for Mr. Mitsotakis to overcome in this way. Of course, initiatives should be taken at all levels. The answer, however, to the unprecedented fiasco, which led to the murder of a young man, cannot once again be communication.”

Closing the announcement, SYRIZA-PS calls for the “substantial assumption of political responsibility with the resignation of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Mr. Economou. Denial of responsibility inflates society’s sense of insecurity.”
