UN completes transfer of 1 million barrels of oil from derelict FSO Safer supertanker
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday that it welcomes the successful completion of the oil transfer operation from the supertanker FSO Safer.
After years of negotiations and planning, the United Nations completed the transfer at least 1 million barrels of oil from abandoned supertanker FSO Safer off the Red Sea coast of Yemen.
After months of hard work, a UN-led operation has successfully transferred more than a million gallons of oil from the decaying #FSOSaferpreventing a major environmental & humanitarian disaster in the Red Sea.

Greece, it is emphasized, was among the countries who financially supported this operation, which prevented an environmental and humanitarian disaster.
“Congratulations for the efforts of the United Nations and all the international partners involved” concludes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
