Statement by the Member of Parliament for the Western Sector of Athens of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance and candidate for President of the party on the suffering of thousands of citizens on the Athens Corinth highway
Thousands of citizens are currently suffering on the Athens-Corinth highway, due to a fire in a tanker. They live in an extreme situation and for hours, from 12 noon when the fire started, there was no announcement, emphasizes the MP for the Western Sector of Athens of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance and candidate for party president Efi Ahtsioglou.
“It is not the first time that such suffering has occurred under the Mitsotakis government, whether it concerns bad weather or simply an unexpected event. No preparation, no coordination and in the end thousands of citizens suffer incredible suffering,” emphasizes Mrs. Ahtsioglou.
“The waiting hours for the drivers and their families are now long and will become even longer until the transfer of the cargo contained in the tanker is completed. The state must provide frequent updates on the progress of the transfer, access to water and food, as well as immediate medical care to people of vulnerable groups who are trapped,” he concludes.
