A meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to take immediate measures in Evros and Parnitha was held today at Megaros Maximos.

After the meeting, the Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis made the following statement:

“At the government meeting that took place, the immediate measures taken by the government for Evros and Parnitha, the progress of the measures for the previous fires and in general the issue of prevention and protection of our forests were discussed.

The forestry service declares these areas directly, with administrative acts renewable. We take care of her wild animal, so that the animals that survived have feed and water for the following months. And – most importantly – the procedures begin here as well, as for the previous fires, for the anti-corrosion and anti-flood works in the affected watersheds. In other words, log barriers and other technical projects, which have absolute priority.

Also, absolute priority is given to cleaning of streams in these areas, under the responsibility of the Regions. For those affected in these areas, yesterday, from Alexandroupolis, the government echelon where he went there already announced the measures taken for these cases”.

It should be noted that for the implementation of the technical projects mentioned above, it was decided to activate it new institution of “rehabilitation contractors” while the forestry cooperatives.
