“Tomorrow I will welcome Prime Minister Mitsotakis where I will reiterate the European Parliament’s solidarity with Greece and its people“, said today the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metzolaat the start of the Plenary Session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
“We will continue to discuss EU aid. Our hearts go out to all those whose lives and livelihoods were destroyed this summer and we underline that EU institutions will continue to support countries in need“, emphasized Roberta Metsola.
She stressed that “dangerous weather conditions have affected huge areas of Europe causing widespread damage, destruction and death” and that major fires and floods have caused serious impacts in member states such as Spain, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Italy.
Specifically for Greece, R. Metsola said that it continues to face catastrophic floods that have already claimed the lives of 15 people, after many fires throughout the country. “The EU has already provided vital aid to the affected countries and regions and we will continue to do what is necessary,” he added.
