This year’s presence of the prime minister at the 87th TIF will be different after the catastrophic floods in Thessaly. No booth visits are expected and the presence of ministers will be minimal. The Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his speech today at the Vellideo Conference Center at 20:00, will develop the government’s economic plan as it is being shaped after the catastrophic floods in Thessaly.

Regarding the Prime Minister’s announcements at the TIF, the government representative, Pavlos Marinakis, while briefing the political editors, said: “What the Prime Minister said before the election, will be put into practice and this is not disputed and is not at risk. 50% of the economic program has already been legislated. It is a given that what happened has no precedent for it and we moved immediately to find the necessary resources to cover the needs.

The prime minister does not perceive her speech at the TIF as an occasion to present a basket, or another opportunity for excuses, it is an important opportunity to analyze his priorities and describe with specific interventions how they will become a reality. One of the main priorities of the government over time is the continuous and permanent increase in the income of the citizens. I guess that the prime minister in his speech at the TIF will also devote a significant part to the changes in justice and in general to issues of justice” noted Mr. Marinakis.

According to government sources, the catastrophic floods in Thessaly and their immediate and long-term response will take the lion’s share, while at the same time the new Civil Protection model will be presented with a more active involvement of the armed forces. The Prime Minister is expected to describe the situation, as it has developed since the summer until now with the fires and bad weather and to refer in detail to the compensations, the restoration of the infrastructure and the restoration of the natural environment.

However, what government sources communicate is that the Thessalian events will not change the core and direction of the prime minister’s announcements, on the contrary, they will strengthen his fixed position on the need for a radical restructuring of the state and its critical structures. Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to announce measures that address chronic weaknesses, as the state is expected to say that it does not meet modern needs and that even more things must change, on the initiative of the government itself.

However, government officials have taken care in the last few days to make it clear that the so-called “TIF basket” will be frugal this year and will be limited to the absolute essentials.

In this context, the new support measures launched by the government to be announced by the Prime Minister at the D.E.Th, due to the overperformance of the revenues, were re-evaluated and thus the personal difference allowance to pensioners will be given from January, while normally the increases to civil servants that have already been voted but from then on the rest of the benefits will be limited and the question remains whether the special allowance for firefighters will be given in the end which is of low budgetary cost and mainly symbolic, like the heating allowance.

As far as it is concerned, the extraordinary allowance that was planned to be given to pensioners in December, may be transferred to January in order to be registered as an expense in the next year’s budget. According to information, however, the prime minister is expected to announce at the TIF a special tax for natural disasters, which, however, as they predicted, will not be a universal tax.

At the same time as all the other interventions that the prime minister will announce from the TIF, government officials insist that the government continues to keep the safety of the vulnerable on its list of priorities against the continued precision, which is expected to be exacerbated by the shortages that will be created in the internal market, since the disasters in Thessaly.
