The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, left today for New York, in order to participate from September 18 to 23 in the work of the High Level Week of the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations Organization.
The priority of the Minister of Foreign Affairs is the promotion of Greece’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the two years 2025-2026 and the promotion of Greek foreign policy positions.
The Foreign Minister’s program includes high-level meetings, bilateral and multilateral contacts with Foreign Ministers from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America, as well as meetings with high-ranking officials of the UN, EU and regional organizations.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs will participate in tripartite Greece-Cyprus meetings with Israel, Egypt and Jordan. There will also be a quadripartite meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia.
In addition, Mr. Gerapetritis will take part in high-level talks on Euro-Atlantic cooperation, the war in Ukraine and peace in the Middle East, while he will attend a Transatlantic Dinner organized by the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.
During his stay in New York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will meet with representatives of the Greek diaspora. He will also have contacts with the leadership of American-Jewish organizations.
