The SYRIZA MP explains why in this round she will not support Efi Ahtsioglou as she did in the first
The SYRIZA member of parliament, Elena Akrita, is publicly on the side of Stefanos Kasselakis. She announced her decision in a post on Facebook while at the same time explaining why she does not support Efi Ahtsioglou in the second round of SYRIZA’s internal party elections, something she had done in the first round.
“The discrediting of the 45% with characterizations for the “cloudy” result and the lack of seriousness of the voters particularly troubled me,” wrote Elena Akrita while stressing that she respects the majority of the voters.
“Stefanos Kasselakis, instead of criticizing his fellow candidates, chose to express his deepest sorrow for the tragedy in Libya – something that is positively credited to his election campaign,” he wrote.
Her post in detail
“On July 17, with my article in @news247, I stated that in the internal party elections I will support Efi Ahtsioglou, listing the reasons that determined my choice.”
But the pre-election period, culminating in the presidential candidate’s statements on the evening of the first Sunday, rerouted my course. The discrediting of the 45% with characterizations for the “cloudy” result and the lack of seriousness of the voters particularly troubled me.
I respect the majority and think we should listen carefully to what it is trying to tell us, without dismissing it because we just don’t like the numbers.
A little later, Stefanos Kasselakis, instead of criticizing his fellow candidates, chose to express his deep sorrow for the tragedy in Libya – something that is positively credited to his election campaign.
Only fools get hung up on their original choice and don’t re-evaluate it when the facts change. Personally, I have no political aspirations, second thoughts and ulterior motives. I did not enter Politics to make a career, but to offer my best in the long-suffering field of Human Rights.”
