“With Turkey we have perennial difficulties and one and only difference: the delimitation of the EEZ and the continental shelf. It is not easy to solve, otherwise it would have already been done. But we can try it in the meantime to strengthen our cooperation in areas such as Civil Protection and climate change”announced the prime ministerKyriakos Mitsotakis in an interview with CNNa little while before crucial meeting with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in New Yorkon the sidelines of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly.

Asked about the challenges facing Greece, the prime minister referred to positive course of the economy, in the rise of tourismbut nevertheless also on disasters that the country experienced this summer related to the climate crisispointing out that we need a global alliance to face these kinds of challenges.

“I do not agree that due to the climate crisis Greece will receive a blow in tourism” he said, answering a question about whether Europeans due to the warmer climate created by the heatwaves will still choose the countries of the south for holidays and added that “We have managed to extend the season and so people can come to Greece in April as wellis a measure that can deal with climate change”.

Regarding his visit to New York and his participation in the work of the United Nations, Mr. Mitsotakis stated that “it’s a great opportunity to discuss on a global level, I really like New York and I think it’s very important that leaders meet on issues related to security.”
