The Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Dimitris Kairidis, assured today through SKAI that we are not going to experience an immigration crisis like the one in 2015, adding that we are trying to stay away from it.

However, he emphasized that we have a doubling of flows already in ’22 compared to ’21 and a significant increase in 2023. He added, however, that we are not at the level of Italy in terms of the number of flows, nor in terms of management.

“Turkey’s role is key”

Mr. Kairides pointed out that the key in the case is the role of Turkey and the cooperation with the neighboring country, while he emphasized that the situation also concerns the European north, although there is a large oligarchy on the part of the European partners and dichotomy within the governments such as in Berlin.

He stated that on Thursday he will have a meeting with the Commissioner for Internal Affairs of the European Commission Ylva Johansson at the European Council, while our country has requested emergency funding like Italy.

When asked about it, he said that the immigrant population is decreasing in our country, the Greek economy is developing and there is a big issue in the labor market with land workers.

In this context, he mentioned that Greece is making a great effort to conclude bilateral agreements with repatriated workers from countries such as Moldova and India.
