Dionysis Teboneras commented on the election of the new president of SYRIZA, Stefanos Kasselakis, as well as on the steps that must be taken from now on in the party, speaking on the program “Mismatches” on SKAI.

“Unity is something you forge on certain foundations. On an ideological basis, that is, we must determine our ideo-geopolitical brand, on a programmatic basis, that is, we must see how we update our positions and organizationally that have to do mainly with the party’s model, mainly how we penetrate society” said Mr. Teboneras, who a he attributed part of SYRIZA’s defeat in the summer elections to “the inability of SYRIZA to connect with what we call the mass space, to connect with the youth, the unions with the workplaces, with self-government”.

Commenting on the election of Stefanos Kasselakis, he said that “with Mr. Kasselakis, a new beginning is being made after a historic cycle that he lost. Let’s give a little grace period. A man has the right to organize his staff, his strategy,” he said, pointing out that it is logical to have a political inexperience.

“It makes sense that there is a political inexperience that I think can be overcome. Based on what was said yesterday it seems that we are not making a leap into the void. We have a historical tradition, we have positions and opinions, we come as a continuation that takes into account Alexis Tsipras and the governmental experience of the previous period, so what is needed is to update our positions, reform our program, see our mistakes . A self-criticism is needed. It needs a conference of account, self-criticism, not in a mood of self-flagellation or introversion. It is a conference that will synthesize existing differences within SYRIZA, it will overcome differences and contrasts of the past,” he said characteristically.

“I don’t think that a person who appeared in political affairs 3-4 months ago can have full knowledge of what is happening,” he added.

At the same time, Mr. Kasselakis underlined that he is not in favor of the scenario of a split in the party.

Asked if he regretted not standing as a candidate for the party’s presidency, he said: “I didn’t regret not standing, because everyone judges better from which position they can serve better. I am not interested in positions and positions. I can help from a position of responsibility or as a simple member as long as there is a conference that will actually resolve ideological differences.”

Regarding whether he will be used in a position by the new president of the party, he said: “There will be discussions, the decisions are collective”
