Very important development project for the Thessaloniki and for Greece in general, the Prime Minister described the investment in the reconstruction of the FIX industrial complex (which is expected to be completed by March 2027), Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during tonight’s project presentation event. “Every time I come to Thessaloniki for the TIF, I choose to stay west and every time I passed in front of this iconic, abandoned building, I thought when someone will be found to realize the huge development opportunity that exists in the space we are in today” he said characteristically.

He pointed out that he generally sees huge development potential for Thessaloniki, which is still at the beginning of a bright path, while he encouraged investors to put more capital into it.

Mr. Mitsotakis also pointed out that investments like this one are indicative of “how the big ones relate to the smaller ones”, as if Greece had not regained its credibility, if it had not developed into one of its new development protagonists Europe and if the banks had not been cleaned up so that they could finance the development, “none of what was discussed tonight would have been done”.

According to the prime minister, Thessaloniki must finally “stop breathing with only one lung. It has two lungs and the second one is western Thessaloniki, which we support with a versatile plan of interventions, at national, municipal and regional level”. In this direction, he recalled the many projects that are underway in the west of the city, in collaboration with the region and municipalities, mentioning the Holocaust Museum, which will begin construction in 2024, the projects in the Pavlos Melas camps (which is already progressing) and Gonou, the overall regeneration of the entire beachfront of Thessaloniki, the organization of the informal industrial concentration of Kalochori, but also smaller projects.

Mr. Mitsotakis also made special mention of the first bioclimatic business park, Hub 26, which DIMAND is creating right across from its industrial complex FIX. He also expressed the hope that the timetables around the completion of the reconstruction of FIX – in the first quarter of 2027, according to the CEO of DIMAND, Dimitris Andriopoulos – would be respected and that he himself would attend the opening of the investment.

Mr. Mitsotakis pointed out, finally, that we do not need to add new building stock in a country that has many old buildings, which can be renovated and made much more environmentally friendly, especially when these buildings are so great, from in terms of historical and cultural value, as far as the FIX” concluded.
