The president of SYRIZA sent a new, strict message to the internal party opposition on Thursday Stefanos Kasselakis in a gathering where he spoke to the citizens in Keratsini.

“It’s time for the modern Left to stop fooling around and win,” stated Stefanos Kasselakis, and added: “We have a responsibility to find our pace and not only to be in opposition but to find policies from the bottom up that will convince.” Mr. Kasselakis was introduced by Nina Kassimati, while Olga Gerovasilis, Nikos Pappas, Petros Pappas, Kostas Zachariadis, Dora Avgeri, among others, attended the gathering.

Addressing the crowd he said: “Times have changed, we are in 2023. I told BSE yesterday that capital is a tool to reduce inequalities. The role of the modern left is to know where we live, in which world we live, and to convince that we will give opportunities, housing and microcredits to everyone and especially to the young. I fight for everyone, but especially for the young people.”

He referred to the call for new members to write to isyriza saying: “After the invitation I made, 500 new members signed up in SYRIZA” and he added, addressing the older cadres who criticize: “When did you bring 500 new members in one day? We must invite the citizens.” He continued: “You gave me a chance, now give a chance to new members. The values of the left are tolerance and the common good. How do we achieve this? Only with privatizations? ND is coming and wants to privatize everything. Universities, health, public goods. The result of ND policy is deterioration in all areas. How many months does it take to get an appointment at the hospitals? We will defend the public character of health. In my campaign, I got the biggest applause when I said that we are not born to be broken. In Volos, they are afraid to vote freely because they fear reprisals. Is it possible that in 2023 two trains collide by political choice and not by natural disaster? It is possible for fires to rage in Rhodes for 11 days. Who pays the cost? The new generation. The day before yesterday, I said to SEV about the psorocostena, let’s go forward and finally become a modern Europe. I’m here to change everything, but I can’t do it alone, I want you with me.”

He referred to national issues saying that SYRIZA “will guarantee the defense of the country but will not get involved in America’s adventures” and added: “They say I am a planter. I have nowhere to hide, I am not a planter, others have nowhere to hide.”

Generalizing, he said that “we have to find modern solutions to many issues. The roof will be my biggest issue going forward for the new generation. Also how are we going to break up the electricity cartels. We have the most expensive electricity in Europe, they put in the passes and it goes down. But who pays for the passes, does the Mitsotakis family pay for them? We need a social state like the one built by Andreas Papandreou or the social network built by Alexis Tsipras.”

He addressed the channels saying “make a donation for Thessaly”.

On the expansion of the party he said: “We have to build positive politics and we have to invite new members to show that the party is not sour but embracing. The same in the Local Self-Government”.
He referred to the European elections and said that he will respect the older officials, however “SYRIZA will also produce new officials in the European Parliament, this is the order I received and I will honor it. What we are doing here, the meetings with the citizens, we will continue until the next elections and beyond. We have to break the mechanisms of interests.”

In citizen observation that “You are a messiah” he answered: “Not at all, I am a partner and a fellow human being”. Answering a question from the public on the issue of “impunity” he said: “Who are offering bank executives impunity? Those who owe 400 million euros”. He then clarified: “SYRIZA will need your help and that of the diaspora, but we will not enter the debt trap.”

Regarding the internal parties, he said: “My election means that a large part of society wants us to govern again, so we must provide practical solutions. But taking out a left-handed meter and putting it on someone else is a right-wing practice. The left is to embrace them all, if they want to fight with us.” He noted that “first we will make ruptures and then from the bottom up we will build politics.”

He also announced that in the next elections “5 of the 15 positions on the State ballot will be from the young which will be chosen by the young people themselves”. Regarding the upcoming Congress of SYRIZA, he said: “It will not be a conference for settling accounts, it will be a conference for society.” Responding to a citizen’s remark, he said: “There is justice, but it works for the very few.”

Mr. Kasselakis emphasized the need to deal with corruption: “They ask, how are you going to finance one or the other, the first is to stop corruption, if the markets see that the country is governed properly they will support it. Fiscal stabilization has come about through the impoverishment of the citizenry.” He referred to justice saying: “Justice is the great patient of the country. In 24 hours they issued a statement against me, but what are they doing about the other issues? It is true that the courts are understaffed and lack infrastructure. We will support honest judges, but to do that we must be a self-reliant government.”

In closing, he attacked the government: “We have a government with a dangerous policy and a nationally dangerous policy, even demilitarizing the islands.”
